The ideal equipment for each workroom at home is a general lamp in combination with a flexible working lamp. For the general luminaries, we can recommend in particular floor lamps with an indirect distribution of light. It is important that the light be reflected broadly from the ceiling.

The optimal lighting of a home office stands in direct contrast to mood light staging in other home areas. The main rule is: directly distributed light and contrasts should be prevented, because shadows are perceived as disturbing and differences in light levels that are too extreme cause fatigue. Proper lighting of an office is, therefore, necessarily monotonous and not implicitly tight and dramatic.

Working light which is convenient for ergonomics is dispersed and shadowless, which is why fluorescent and bulb lamps are better in any case than halogen lamps. It is accepted that the larger the surface of the light source, the more dispersed the distribution of light. In principle, light should always be emitted from the side and if possible, it should not create any shadows or disturbing reflections.

In workplaces with screens, it is necessary to take into account without glare and reflection. Advice for all night owls: contrasts in the light make the eyes tired. This is why it is always important to ensure, except for lighting on a writing desk, sufficient basic lighting.
Qualitative indicators for your workplace:

Prevention against the direct glare of light window surfaces. Always arrange working places perpendicular to the front window. Artificial light must have the same incident direction. The incidence of light from the side and overhead is perfect. Adjustable venetian blinds or lamellae prevent direct glare. The luminous intensity should be at least 500 lx. Because the light level decreases with the age of the bulb, the lighting installation value should be 25% higher. Prevent differences in the light level in the visual field; take into account a pleasant light distribution between the screen, the keyboard and the surroundings. Prevent reflections on the screen. Respect the pleasant creation of shadows with soft edges.
